We afforded a large motorhome in the States. It would have room for 9 people, although I wouldn't travel around with 9 people in it. But what's super cool is that we really have a lot of space. It's about 11 meters long, 4 meters high and about 4 meters wide when extended.
When we picked up the motorhome in Seattle, we still had our rental car, which we had to bring back. So I (Liisa) had to drive this ship for the first stretch. To clarify: I love driving, no matter what size of car, and I'm not bad at it. Of course I have more tickets than Chriss, I'm more willing to take risks...
But in any case, I've never driven a truck or a bus. So I set off with the boys in the camper van...I was terrified because I was sitting so high up, I couldn't see the sides very well and after 100 meters I had to drive onto a freeway with 6 lanes...on a weekday with x trucks...I was totally overwhelmed🙈. It takes a lot for me not to say anything, not to get loud...but this situation overwhelmed me soooo much. Tears were streaming down my face...so at about 30miles I was chugging along this freeway...we had to go to the car rental place to pick up Chriss. I didn't know exactly how wide we were yet, so I turned into a parking lot...suddenly I stopped because I knew...I'm not getting out of here. In the end I parked in the bus lane...totally exhausted...
A few weeks have passed since then. Driving on the roads in America is super pleasant with such a big vehicle. I am now enjoying driving this huge vehicle. We hardly ever drive in big cities and are often on the highways and freeways. In the mountains, driving downhill takes a bit of practice, but that becomes easier after all the meters of altitude. What Chriss and I sometimes underestimate is that we are not made for small mountain passes, but Google doesn't know that.
Now we enjoy the endless expanses and nature that we discover in this mobile home.
